Retrenched workers not accessing free services

Many recently retrenched workers do not realize that they can now access immediate help in getting back to work, A4e Australia CEO, Ms Shula Kentwell, said today.

Shula explained that the Government introduced new rules and assistance earlier this year to make it easier for people who have lost their job through no fault of their own or as a result of the economic downturn to get immediate assistance in getting back to work.

“Being made redundant is often a huge blow to your self esteem and it can be hard to think about an immediate pathway back to work, but there is now free help available to help people get back to work, and people should use it,” Shula said.

“The A4e Australia staff is highly skilled in providing the necessary support and help that will make the difference between success and failure in helping anyone who has been recently retrenched to get back to work,” Shula said.

“Sometimes they may need help accessing relevant and wanted training to develop new skills, or they may just need help with updating their resume, or undertaking a skills analysis. We can provide whatever help is needed right now,” Shula said.

A4e provides individually tailored services to help out of work Australians back into work. It operates from 7 sites across regional NSW and Sydney.

Shula is concerned that people who have been recently retrenched or made redundant as a result of the GFC may not be aware that they are now eligible for immediate assistance from their Job Services Australia provider, such as A4e.

“We’ve found that the sooner people who have been retrenched or made redundant get employment assistance, the better their prospects are,” Shula said.

“All they need to do is give us a call or drop in and visit an A4e site, and we’ll be very pleased to help them access all the services that they are entitled to,” Shula said.

The Australian Government announced on February 24 this year, that they all retrenched workers would be eligible for immediate assistance to help them back into work, and that they would not have to wait for 3 months like they did previously, to get the help they need, Shula said.
